Rack Plating Process
Rack plating is used to finish complex, fragile and large parts that cannot be successfully coated using other processes. Parts are hung on a rack and held in place with metal hooks or bands. The parts are submersed in the plating solution and the electrical current is applied. Rack plating is an effective process for selective, or partial, coating. However, due to the complex geometry of parts that are rack coated, it can be difficult to achieve uniform plating without the use of auxiliary anodes or robbers.
Our experienced staff can engineer custom racks based on the geometry of a part and the finish required to meet the most demanding specifications. We provide rack plating services for aluminum, steel, stainless steel, nickel-silver and copper alloys, Inconel® and Monel®. Rack plating is used for copper plating, bright nickel plating, electroless nickel plating, electrolytic plating, silver plating, and gold plating.
Our extensive quality control measures throughout production include non-destructive testing in accordance with ASTM B 568 to measure the thickness of the coating. Using Fischerscope X-Ray equipment, we can measure the thickness of the coating with a margin of error less than 1%. We offer 100% testing, if needed for your parts. We can manufacture to meet ASTM, AMS and MIL standards. All our processes are certified to ISO 9001:2008.
